TOWNSVILLE, QUEENSLAND: After much anticipation, ALDI, Australia’s best-rated supermarket will bring its Good Different shopping experience to the sunny city of Townsville, when a new store located within the Willow’s Shopping Centre opens on Wednesday, 22nd November.

The opening of ALDI Townsville marks the first ALDI store in North Queensland and will offer the local community an exclusive range of high-quality products at unbelievably low prices. The spacious location will feature a 1379sqm custom-designed storefront as well as a range of innovations including self-checkouts, a modern interior design and simple layout so customers can easily navigate the savings on offer.

In true ALDI fashion, the store will be packed with award-winning fresh produce delivered daily, 100% Australian meat, and iconic Specials Buys. Customers can feel confident that every item in their trolley is not just great value but is top quality too. It’s this guarantee that has contributed to ALDI winning Canstar Blue’s award for Australia’s Most Satisfied Shoppers eight times.

Bronwyn Post, Managing Director, Queensland, ALDI Australia said, “We know the passion North Queenslanders have for ALDI and how much they’ve been looking forward to ALDI bringing Australia’s lowest priced groceries to the region. Now more than ever it’s important that Aussies have access to affordable groceries so it’s truly a pleasure for us to be able to reach a whole new community of people with our ‘Good Different’ shopping experience.

We know for many customers visiting ALDI Townsville, it will be their first time ever shopping in an ALDI store. There are a few small differences they may notice that separate us from other supermarkets such as our curated range of exclusive brands, streamlined operations, and our coin deposit trolleys. These differences allow us to cut out unnecessary costs and pass these savings on to customers. Last year alone, we delivered $3.1 billion in savings directly to customers. That’s real money back in the pockets of Australian families.

Our Price Promise remains the same from the day we opened our first store over 20 years ago – we won’t be beaten on the cost of your weekly shop. We look forward to welcoming the residents of Townsville to the store so they can discover the savings that can be made for themselves.”

Townsville residents can experience ALDI’s famous Special Buys aisle with new products going on sale every Wednesday and Saturday. The Townsville store will offer an exclusive range of Special Buys for the grand opening including a 10kg Front Load Washing Machine for just $399 and a 32” Philips HD LED Android TV for just $189.

For Townsville locals who are shopping at ALDI for the first time, ALDI’s shopping expert Kylie Warnke has curated a list of “must try” products new to ALDI customers should pick up.

“Customers who haven’t shopped with us before, should grab a trolley token (just 99c!) and head in store to check out our quality offering. We are confident that it’s not only the prices that will delight customers in the Townsville area but also the amazing quality of our exclusive brands, which are consistently award winning,” Kylie says.

Kylie says: “If you’re looking for a high performing award-winning stain remover then look no further than our Di San stain removing spray. At just $1.95 a bottle it’s a life saver for those stains you’re sure just won’t come out.”

Making a ‘Good Difference’

Townsville customers have more to feel good about than ALDI’s prices. In August 2020, ALDI became the first Australian supermarket to commit to 100% renewable electricity, achieving this in June of 2021. All ALDI Australia stores, offices and warehouses are now fully powered by renewable electricity.

In addition to being completely powered by renewable electricity, in 2019, ALDI also committed to reducing plastic packaging by 25% and ensuring 100% of packaging will be reusable, recyclable or compostable by 2025. In 2021, ALDI committed to sending zero waste to landfill by 2025 with an initial focus on reducing food waste. ALDI Australia recently won Finder’s ‘Green Supermarket of the Year’ award, recognising the company’s ambition and progress in its sustainability efforts.

All forty part-time and full-time employees joining the ALDI Townsville team will be bringing to life the ALDI values and mission. As a responsible employer ALDI offers every employee a salary above market rates, comprehensive training, employee wellness programs and paid parental leave.
