With many Australians aware of the term ‘organic’ and with even more looking to eat more organically, it’s no surprise to see a rise in preference for organic alternatives. There are plenty of benefits to going organic, which is why ALDI is celebrating Australian Organic Awareness month. Taking place in September, the dedicated month aims to educate consumers about the benefits of choosing organic and to celebrate products which are certified organic.

For those wondering, certified organic products prohibit the use of synthetic agricultural chemicals, colourings and fragrances. Livestock is free range with no animal testing permitted across any organically certified products.

“Whether it’s a health or environmentally conscious decision, we have found that more of our shoppers are stocking up on organic products. That’s why we have set out to ensure our customers have access to a wide range of organic products. A common misconception is that shopping organic costs significantly more. This is simply not the case with our Just Organics range, which allows customers to fill their pantries with organic alternatives at an affordable price,” said Luke Iemma, Buying Director at ALDI Australia.

The rising popularity hasn’t gone unnoticed. In 2018, ALDI sold 20% more organic products on the year prior and there’s no signs of this trend slowing down. Organic sales have increased by a further 10% versus this time last year (Jan-July 2019 vs Jan-July 2018) on everything from organic tomatoes, pasta, baked beans and olive oil, through to yogurt, tea and chocolate.

This growth has also been reflected on a national scale, with the number of certified organic operators in Australia increasing by 19%. In fact, Australia holds around 51% of the global total area of organic certified farmland, according to Australian Organic.

To cater to this growing trend, we have added products including organic wine, baby food, milk and butter to our range, with more than 10 new organic products set to launch by the end of the year. It’s easy to spot an organic product at ALDI, with all of our certified organic products featuring certification numbers on front of pack.

Not only is certified organic better for you, it’s better for the environment. So, if you haven’t already why don’t you try something from our Just Organics range in your next shop.
