On Saturday 18th August, ALDI’s annual Motorbike Special Buys will appear in the middle aisle of stores. And this year’s range won’t disappoint.
Why we love it…
Every year we work to improve the range to make it even better than the last. This year is no exception, with considerable time devoted to product development, sourcing and testing to ensure our products are of the highest quality, yet represent exceptional value.
“We found that there was demand for a different type of helmet. That’s why this year we consolidated our helmet offering to plain black and soft graphic finishes. We have also brought back the Race Stand and Folding Single Ramp – both popular items amongst riders,” said Andrew King, Buying Director at ALDI Australia.
And there’s some good news for female riders. This year, ladies will be able to get their hands on a Ladies Motorcycle Leather Jacket, designed for safety, style and comfort whilst riding. The ever popular men’s leather jacket will also make a return.
The upcoming range will also see key products become part of a new safety certification that came into effect on 21st April 2018.
“We are proud to announce that the 2018 Torque Motorcycle Leather Jacket and gloves range is amongst the very first in the world to have been assessed and certified to the new European Personal Protective Equipment Regulation 2016/425,” said Renata Hay, Textiles Buying Director at ALDI Australia.
We want riders to have a safe journey every time they get on the road. In the absence of an Australian Standard, we have been testing relevant motorcycle clothing products to European Standards for a number of years in order to obtain independent certification in accordance with European safety legislation. We have gone above and beyond when developing the range with specified products tested to the highest standard to ensure compliance.
Our EN13595 certified leather jackets and EN13594 certified gloves are tested for impact abrasion resistance, seam burst strength and impact cut resistance – all extremely important safety tests which other products in the market do not always measure. Whilst many manufacturers refer to EN1621 certification, this certification is only for armour such as back, knee or shoulder protectors and does not cover the garment itself, unlike the certifications we have tested to.
Testing on these products is certified by SATRA and for the 2018 offering, these products are now also EU certified to the new PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) Regulation. Consequently, our leather jacket is approved to the highest standard (EN 13595 Level 2), our leather gloves to EN13594, as well as the latest PPE legislation.
Our motorcycle helmets are tested to the Australian standard AS/NZS 1698:2006 and certified by SAI Global. This allows us to use the 5tick label you will find on each of the helmets. Our motorcycle jeans are reinforced with high tenacity aramid fibre at critical areas like the seat, hips and knees. They are also fitted with CE EN1621 certified knee protectors.

Without a doubt the most vital piece of equipment for any rider is their helmet, which is why we have invested time creating the best product possible. We offer full face and open face helmets, which are both made with a lightweight, shock absorbing ABS shell and include washable and removable cheek pads.
“Whilst the open face helmet offers a detachable peak, the full face helmet offers an internal sun visor to protect against the sun and a transparent visor to protect you against the wind. In a full face helmet you tend to get a warmer head. The helmets includes an inside ventilation system and adjustable multi-way air vents on the top and the front. The full face helmets are aimed for motorcyclists and the open face helmets are directed more to scooter drivers or chopper bike drivers,” explains Andrew.
While our leather jackets and jeans are considered essential garments, you can’t forget the importance of base and mid layers, which are a requisite all year round.
“Our base layers are a lightweight stretch fabric which is comfortable to wear and also transports moisture away from the body. The base layer is closest to your skin and so it’s important that it also wicks moisture away from the skin,” says Renata.
“Our Merino midlayer is extremely effective in trapping heat and keeping moisture away from the skin. The fabric is soft and breathable. Merino wool creates Thermo Physical Comfort, a balance between humidity and temperature which keeps the body warm in winter and cool in summer. Merino wool is a natural material which is sustainable and biodegradable. This 100% merino wool product is also fully machine washable.”
As with all of ALDI’s Special Buys, our Motorbike products will be located in the middle aisle of your local store from Saturday 18th August, while stocks last. In the meantime, you can check out all the products on our website or in catalogue.
