Today marks the opening of our first South Australian store for 2020: ALDI Salisbury. ALDI Salisbury will be our 34th South Australian store since we entered the state four years ago. While we’ve grown our store network, we have also been able to employ more locals, with our store network, SA head office and distribution centre employing 652 South Australians.

Our impact won’t stop here. We will open another five new stores throughout the year in Clovelly Park, Findon, Mawson Lakes, Norwood and Plympton, with plans to open even more stores into the future.

We continue to partner with local business and growers, stocking everything from SA grown apples, carrots, broccolini and mandarins, through to pasta and confectionary. We are proud to have contributed more than $168 million to the South Australian economy in the year 2018 alone, much of which has been generated through our local business partnerships.

“Every year, our impact on South Australia becomes more significant as our store network grows. Our focus in 2020 is to continue to support local communities through new store openings, employment and food charity partnerships. We look forward to a successful year of growth in the state which sees even more South Australians save on their grocery shop,” said Viktor Jakupec, Managing Director of South Australia, ALDI Australia.

While our South Australian shoppers are supportive of our locally grown and made products, we have also noticed that they have their own distinctive set of ALDI favourites. As part of our ‘The People’s Picks’ consumer voted awards program, local shoppers voted our Cowbelle Tasty Shredded Cheese, Bon Appetit Chocolate Chip Mini Brioche Rolls, Bakers Life Plain Bagels, Jindurra Station Beef Eye Fillet and Moser Roth Orange and Almond Chocolate as some of their top-rated products.

The unique shopping patterns of South Australians can also be seen in our recent best-selling Special Buys in the state. Six of the top ten sellers were various models of our Bauhn TV, including our 65” and 58” Ultra HD TVs, 75” 4k and 55” UHD Smart TVs. Our Petrol Garden Mower, TV Android, Dyson V7 Origin and 1kg Cashews rounded out the top ten best-sellers.

Our support for the local communities in which we have a presence has only grown stronger. Through our charity partnerships with OzHarvest, Foodbank and SecondBite, in 2019 alone our SA stores donated more than 491 tonnes of food to local charities, which is equivalent to 980,000 meals. We look to increase this number in 2020 and beyond, helping even more locals in need have access to food.

While we may not offer self-serve checkouts and even though you need a coin for your trolley, we know that South Australians are benefiting from our everyday low prices. As we open more stores, we look forward to giving more South Australians the chance to save money and shop our unique private-label range.
