At ALDI, we value our employees and their contributions to our business.

Our commitment has always been to act with integrity, and ensuring our people are paid correctly for their valuable contribution to our business is of paramount importance to us.

Following an extensive review commenced in 2022 by ALDI, it was identified that some employees may not have received payment for all hours worked. Beginning in 2022, ALDI has made payments to warehouse and store employees to avoid the risk that these employees may have performed some tasks before the commencement of their shift and in the case of store employees, at the completion of their shift.

In 2023, the Shop, Distributive and Allied Employees’ Association (SDA) initiated Federal Court litigation, seeking payment for all time spent in the workplace, plus penalties for breaches of ALDI’s enterprise agreements. ALDI does not dispute that employees are entitled to payment for work outside their rostered shifts where they are required to perform work and do in fact perform work.

ALDI and the SDA have reached a settlement in this litigation.

ALDI has taken the following actions:
• ALDI has undertaken a comprehensive audit, reviewing millions of shifts to identify any employees who may have performed some tasks either prior to or after the completion of their shift.
• As a result, ALDI has made payments to current and former store and warehouse employees, regardless of whether they performed work or not outside of their rostered shifts.
• Eligible former warehouse and stores employees will be contacted and will receive payment once they have provided proof of identity and banking and superannuation details.
• An additional payment will be made to eligible current and former employees for interest on payments made.

ALDI is working to ensure that payments are made in a way that is thorough, transparent, and fair.

The SDA has agreed with the above actions as a settlement of the Federal Court litigation.
