Local residents are set to enjoy high-quality products at permanently low prices and increased employment opportunities as ALDI officially opens the doors to its new store in Allenstown.

From 8.30am on Wednesday 2nd October, ALDI Allenstown will provide the community with award-winning grocery products and popular Special Buys, together with fresh fruit, vegetables and bread delivered daily.

“After much anticipation, we’re excited to be opening our new store in Rockhampton. It has been a rewarding journey to bring our unique shopping experience to even more shoppers in Central Queensland and we are thrilled to be opening our first store in the region, said Bronwyn Post, Managing Director of Queensland, ALDI Australia.”

“The opening of ALDI Allenstown would not have been possible without the extensive support we have received from the community. We are thankful for the local residents who voiced their desire for an ALDI in the local area, as well as Rockhampton City Council for supporting our plans from the initial stages of our Development Application right through to opening day.  We also acknowledge the hardworking local contractors who were engaged during construction, who worked efficiently to complete the build of the store,” continued Bronwyn.

“This journey began when I first wrote to ALDI in 2013 expressing our community’s desire to have the store in Rockhampton. I wrote again just after Cylone Marcia struck in 2015 making the case that the promise of an ALDI would cheer us in those dark days. Our community were doing it tough and there is certainly a strong belief that the introduction of an ALDI helps to deliver more affordable groceries to a region. I’m pleased that ALDI listened to the needs of the community and after a few years of planning with council, it was welcome news when ALDI confirmed their plans to open in Rockhampton,” said Mayor Margaret Strelow, Rockhampton Regional Council.

“While it has been a long journey, the community have signalled their support for ALDI at every turn. It is very satisfying that we have arrived at the stage where we officially have Rockhampton’s first ALDI,” added Mayor Strelow.

ALDI Allenstown features a number of innovations that will offer an enhanced shopping experience for customers, with better product displays, improved navigation and a modern interior store design.

Features include redesigned shelving, expanded wooden produce bays, as well as extended energy efficient chillers. As energy management remains a key priority for ALDI, the store has energy efficient LED lighting. There will also be improved point-of-sale displays and store signage.

To celebrate the opening of ALDI Allenstown, there will be a number of unique Special Buys on offer, which will not be available collectively in any other store. ALDI’s Special Buys offer a surprising and unexpected collection of products at unbeatable prices, across a range of categories like skiing, gardening, cooking or entertaining.

Special Buys have become incredibly popular with Australian shoppers and are just one way ALDI distinguishes itself from other supermarkets. They appear in store every Wednesday and Saturday, and customers are given a preview of the products one week before they are in store via ALDI’s catalogue, e-newsletter, app and website.

Exclusive Special Buys available at the grand opening include our highly sought after Kids Wooden Toys, a Car Black Box Recorder and a 7 piece Power Tool Set, in addition to our regular Special Buys on sale in stores nationally. Shoppers can visit www.aldi.com.au/specialbuys to check out the full range of Special Buys.

In ALDI’s report, “Making a good difference: How ALDI contributes to the Australian economy”, it was found that in 2018 in Queensland alone, ALDI’s investment in local businesses totaled an economic contribution of $186 million to the state. Our business partners employ 1,246 Queenslanders and partnerships with ALDI have helped these businesses grow and create employment opportunities in local communities. The report also found that ALDI saves shoppers $2.2 billion per year compared to shopping at national competitors.

“The opening of ALDI Allenstown is a real opportunity for us to grow our contribution to the state economy and moreover, to the Rockhampton local government area through employment and tax. We also look forward to saving local residents money on their grocery shop with our everyday low prices,” said Bronwyn.

ALDI Allenstown will be supported by a team of 20-25 permanent full and part-time employees, providing a unique career opportunity in retail. This new store team will join the 2,459 employees currently working at ALDI in Queensland.

The new store will be located at 153-167 Gladstone Road, Allenstown. Opening hours will be 8:30am-8pm Monday to Friday, 8am-6pm Saturday and 9am-6pm Sunday.
