One thing is clear, Australian’s don’t like missing out on café-quality coffee. While we have been bunkered down at home during COVID-19, ALDI customers have bought up and we have experienced a 50% increase in sales since mid-February for our Lazzio Coffee range.
While some might have used social distancing to master their coffee art or others have taken their hand at dalgona coffee – what Australians might not know is that getting your caffeine-fix from home has proved to be one way to support Australian business during this time. The surging popularity of coffee has meant that ALDI has been able to increase support to the local business behind the product, Black Bag Roasters, who usually extend their production of specialty coffee to a range of cafes and restaurants, as well as ALDI stores.
The Victorian-based Black Bag Roasters have been an ALDI partner since 2014. Over the years, ALDI has collaborated with the coffee powerhouse to create our award winning Lazzio Medium and Dark Coffee Beans, Lazzio Medium and Dark Ground Coffee, Organic Ground Coffee, as well as a range of Single Origin Beans including Peru, Brazil, Colombia and Honduras available at select times of the year. The coffee company has successfully won over a loyal ALDI fan base, however, Black Bag Roasters is part of a larger coffee business, Nomad Coffee Group that supply coffee to cafes, restaurants and franchise networks across Australia.
“We are extremely fortunate to be a trusted partner of ALDI and over the last six weeks we have certainly seen a significant uplift in sales through our ALDI range. The demand for great coffee at home has enabled our business to keep all of our production staff on full time work and will have a significant impact on helping us get through this difficult period,” said Craig Dickson, CEO at Nomad Coffee Group.
“We are delighted that over recent months, thousands of ALDI shoppers have tried the multiple award winning ALDI Lazzio coffee range. Our procurement and production teams have worked especially hard to ensure we could meet increased demand and we trust that all the new Lazzio coffee lovers will continue to enjoy their at-home coffee experience,” added Craig.
It’s not just the café experience that is to love about the Lazzio coffee range. In close collaboration with ALDI, Black Bag Roasters has invested time creating sustainable coffee products to ensure every coffee bean has been sourced responsibly and ethically. This means that all of the Lazzio and Just Organic coffee that is supplied to ALDI is either Fairtrade or UTZ Certified. In turn, this dedication to the supply chain has contributed to ALDI achieving a significant milestone, with more than 30% of ALDI’s coffee range being sustainably sourced.
If you’ve recently found a love for Lazzio in lockdown, or perhaps you’ve always been a longtime fan, we thank you for the opportunity to support a well-deserving Australian business through this time.
